Creative Links: Join the Discussion and Explore Your Career Options at University of Sydney

20 04 2012

Is it possible to engage popular action to protect human rights without a populist approach? What is life like as a professional contemporary artist in Australia? How can training in music, the humanities, or creative arts, translate to building a unique career?

Applying creative solutions to social issues can lead to individuals building exceptional careers.

We invite you to join us at our postgraduate roundtable event, ‘Creative Links’, and to hear from our expert panel of academics as they discuss why their work matters to the world around us and how you too can make a difference.

Our academics will engage with the latest innovative thinking in the areas of education, music, teaching, creative and visual arts, music, architecture, and democratisation.

This event will suit anybody interested in building a career by linking music, humanities or creative arts to industry.

There are three components to this event:

Postgraduate information session: where you can speak to academic members of staff about your future postgraduate study opportunities in these fields.

Creative links symposium: bite-sized talks from experts in education, architecture, music, creative arts and democratisation.

Speakers will include Lindy Lee, one of Australia’s foremost contemporary artists, who will be discussing life as a professional artist in Australia.

Also to give a talk will be Dannielle Celermajer, who will explore how ideas can be transitioned from places like Universities into the field and what academics can do to improve human rights. Is it possible to engage popular action to protect human rights, while avoiding the ‘traps of the simple’ or should we support a creative populist approach like the Kony Video?

Interactive Displays and Performances: featuring performance artist Renny Kodgers, an interactive smart slab created by students from the Interaction Design and Electronic Arts program, as well as a live performance from the Dan Laboyrie trio.

This event will be held on Wednesday 16 May from 5 – 7:30pm at the Seymour Centre. Registrations are essential and there is no cost for this event.
